Thousands of Leaving Cert students will be getting their results next Wednesday and data from the Higher Education Authority (HEA) has shown that more students are looking to do courses in computing, engineering and science while the traditional 'safe bets' like health and education are seeing a decline. But will there be jobs for the graduates in four years time?

Almost 6,600 on Live Register in East Cork - Stanton

The number of people in East Cork on the live register has now risen to 6594. This is an increase of 10 per cent since this time last year when the figure stood at 6007. "The number of people out of work in Midleton, Cobh and Youghal is still increasing, and increasing on a monthly basis," says Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton.

 
Cork Young Scientist wins in Shanghai

Achieving international success has been the reward for the scientific ability of two students from Midleton College in Cork. Hannah Hayes and Beth Wardle, who were awarded scholarships to travel to an international gathering of young scientists held in Shanghai as part of the World EXPO.

Innovation funding for food companies

The minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith TD has announced details of innovation funding for small Irish companies in the food industry. Innovation Vouchers worth €5,000 each are available to all small companies in the food sector over the next 6 weeks. The deadline for applications is 20 August 2010.

 
Irish suited to entrepreneurship - EU survey

An eu survey has shown that Irish people have the right attitude to entrepreneurship. The study shows that 49 per cent of the Irish population would like to "be their own boss" while 23 per cent of respondents are taking steps to start up a new business.

 
Cork Senator takes aim at Government on unemployment

Fine Gael's Cork South Central Senator Jerry Buttimer has slammed the government on what he calls "its inaction" when it comes to long-term unemployment. In the last year the amount of long-term unemployed has increased by over 72,000 people.
