Cork sports clubs have been reminded that this Sunday 29 August is the closing date for receipt of entries in this year's 2010 Texaco Sportstars Bursary scheme.
The prize fund for the scheme is in excess of €100,000.
Previous Cork winners were Kilmacsimon Swimming and Rowing Club in 2007, Iona Women's Superleague Basketball Club.

A new exhibition showcasing the work of students from Crawford College of Art and Design is running in the former FAS building and Tax office on Sullivan's Quay.
The new show follows on from 'Bounce', the CCAD's most successful degree show, which was also on at the same venue in June. The art for sale supports the costs of running the building for the artists who work there.

Blackrock GAA Club will be hosting a bluegrass show on Tuesday, 7 September at the Clubhouse Bar in Church Road. The event will feature music from Cedar Hill Bluegrass Band and guests.
Cedar Hill is a traditional bluegrass band made up of six accomplished musicians and singers say they have stayed true to their Ozark roots.

Artists exhibiting their work at Etain Hickey Collections in Clonakilty will be available to meet members of the public on Saturday 28 August, when the exhibition comes to a close.
Being run as part of Cork Craft Month, the exhibition features the work of artists and craftspeople including Jim Turner, Anne Harrington Rees, Dunbeacon Pottery and Crawford Art College graduate, Noirin O’Connor.

Cork ladies are being encouraged to run the upcoming Women’s Mini Marathon in aid of the HOPE Foundation. 250,000 children are living on the streets of Calcutta and The HOPE Foundation is funding projects in healthcare, education, shelter and child protection to help children and their families to break the cycle of poverty.

A night of music, song, cabaret and comedy will take place on Tuesday 31 August to raise funds for a Cork baby who was born without eyes.
Baby Jakub Nowak from Millstreet is undergoing surgery every few months for his rare condition Anophthalmia, as he was born without eyes or optic nerves.

The 'End of Summer' Ballinlough festival takes place this weekend in what is sure to be a fun packed weekend for all the family.
Cork hurling legend Sean Og O hAilpin will open the festival in Ballinlough Community Centre Park at 4pm with festivities to run until 10pm this Saturday 28 August. All events are free of charge but a raffle will be held with proceeds going to Marymount Hospice.

A celebration of alternative Indian music will take place at the Pavilion on Sunday 29 August to raise money for The Hope Foundation.
Kolkata Benefit will feature the musical fusion of Brazilian, Indian, and Cork-based groups before DJ and Bhangra singer, Amir Butt plays a mix of Indian dance music.
Proceeds will go towards the Hope Foundation, which was set up in 1999 and works with the street and slum children of Calcutta (Kolkata).

An operatic event will take place in Cork on September 11 to help raise funds for the Marymount Hospice and the Cheshire Home in Cork.
The London Garden Opera Company will bring Verdi's La Traviata to Burren House in Kilbrittain and tell the 1930 Parisian story of lonely Violetta's transformation from a hedonistic courtesan into a tragic heroine.

Fine Gael Transport Spokesman and Cork TD, Simon Coveney has proposed a new set of standards for use of the Government jet to ensure cost-effective and transparent Ministerial travel. The Government jet is being abused by Ministers, according to Deputy Coveney, and existing rules in the Cabinet handbook are outdated and have been flouted by Ministers for too long.
