Brian wins July award

A Munster Final win over Kerry in Killarney is always special, but to win by one point and score the winning goal in the last minutes makes it that bit special. That's exactly what Brian Hurley did on the first Sunday in July, not only did he score six points along with the goal, he accounted for all but two points of the Rebel's total.

The Irish Warriors Australian Rules last week won the inaugural Australian Rules Football European Championship in Malmo, Sweden. In the grand final of the European Championship, the Irish Warriors took on the co-hosts, Denmark Vikings.

Well, here we are, right in the middle of a fascinating York Racing Festival. There already has been a fair quota of upsets and outsiders winning, but this is part of the uncertainty of any race meeting. The opening weekend of The Premier Division in England produced some interesting points of conversation. All the top clubs essentially played true to form. Chelsea for example, showed that, important as pre-season games are, their impetus evaporates quickly when the season starts. For their part, Manchester United demonstrated that they are in the mood to add another title to their already impressive Premier Division record.

For those of us pining for the Premier League since Chelsea won the title with a final day 8-0 demolition of Wigan Athletic in May, this weekend has been a long time coming.

 
Shannon wins two medals at World Taekwon-Do Championships

Cork girl Shannon Murphy returned with a magnificent silver and bronze medal from the World Taekwon-Do Championships in Korea. The 14-year-old from the Coachford/Ballyvourney Taekwon-Do club travelled to Korea with the Irish Taekwon-Do Team for the World Taekwon-Do championships held in Korea.
