This year’s ALL Ireland Schoolboys Championship will take place in Dublin next week with three Cork schools, Bandon Grammar School, Ashton Comprehensive and Midleton College, taking part.

Bandon Grammar School who won the title in 2005 and who were defeated in the semi-finals last season are once again expected to make a big bid for the title. Their side contains some exciting young players such as Clinton Sweetnam, Patrick Shanahan and Harry Fleming who will all have important roles to play for their school.

Ashton Comprehensive also have a good team this year and in Dan Hobbs they have a top class penalty corner striker. Last Saturday he showed his ability when scoring a hat-trick for Cork Harlequins 11 in their 7 – 2 win over Catholic Institute in the Munster Senior League Division 1. Dan Hobbs should get plenty of support Alistair Murphy and Stuart O’Grady as the school bids to add to the titles it won in 1998 and 2000.

The third Cork school competing, Midleton College, who are in a group with last years winners Banbridge, have key players in Adam O’Callaghan and Conor Shemeld.

The 16 competing schools have been drawn in four groups of four with the top school in each group qualifying for the semi-finals on Friday 26th October. The groups are:

A: Cookstown, Ashton Comprehensive, Friends School, Sutton Park.
B: Banbridge Academy, Raphoe, St. Andrews College, Midleton College.
C: RBAI, Campbell College, Wesley College, Kings Hospital.
D: Wallace, Sullivan Upper, Bandon Grammar School, Kilkenny College.

Group matches will be played on Wednesday 24th October and Thursday 25th  October at St. Columbas College, Three Rock Rovers Hockey Club and Wesley College  with the semi-finals taking place at Three Rock Rovers H.C at 10.00am on Friday 26th October and the final at 2.00pm at the same venue.
