The four horses crossed the line in a heap, with the O'Brien horse getting up by a head, with Phoenix Tower second, Pipedreamer third, and Campanologist close up. A great race to watch, with all four horses acquitting themselves very well on the day. O'Brien expressed himself delighted with his horses performance, and said he would be now aimed at some prime races, not excluding a few visits to the French circuits later on.

Glorious Goodwood

Well, we've had Royal Ascot, we'll soon have Glorious Goodwood, but, towards the end of this week, we will be visiting one of best tracks in Britain today, the July Course at Newmarket, which holds its annual extravaganza over a few days. This course is distinct from the regular Rowley Mile hurly-burly, for it is set in a beautifully laid-out fashion, with tree-lined walks, and has every spectator friendly attribute to call upon. It has long been the mecca for one of the major races in the country's Sprint Championship, the July Cup, which will be run on Friday, and will have its normal quota of really high-class sprinters vying for the very lucrative prize. The likely favourite here is the recent Ascot winner, Kingsgate Native, who will be taking on Raven's Pass again, with no certain prospect beating that horse on this occasion. In what promises to be a very open race, I will be going for Assertive to come clear up the final hill, hotly pursued by Jupiter Pluvius as they cross the winning line!

The other plum race on that day is the Bunbury Cup, over a mile This race should develop into a right cavalry charge, from which I hope to see Zaahid emerge in the final furlong, to gain a just reward for his consistency throughout the season. A live danger here will be Dabbers Ridge, who will be able to come from behind where it matters most, but Zaahid should have too many guns for him. Success also this weekend, to Tony O'Connell, Martin Lynch, and the Committee of the Cork City Sports, for their annual meeting on Saturday. Lets hope for a fine afternoon, a terrific crowd, and a fantastic meet! Well done to all concerned, Cork is proud of you!!

Your Saturday Trio are:- Ramonti, Metaphoric, and Lindalaana, all running at the Ascot meeting. Good luck, and…good hunting!
