Hughes is winner of youth award

Wednesday, 27th September, 2017 5:49pm

The Cork Minor Ladies Football team recently captured the All-Ireland title for the third year in a row, and for that captain Ciara Hughes was awarded the Cork City and County Youth Award.

Interestingly, Ciara is the third captain to receive the award after Lauara Cleary was awarded in 2016 and Eimear Scally in 2015 and all three girls are students of Coláiste Choilm, with Ciara now a sixth year student in the Ballincollig school.

This is Ciara's second All-Ireland medal; she played wing back on the victorious 2016 team while she is also a notable camogie player, representing Cork at underage level.

Ciara was again given the honour of captaining Cork footballers in 2017 and lead by example with wins over Waterford, Kerry, Tyrone and Galway to take the All-Ireland Minor title for the third year in a row while club activity is now in full swing for Ciara who will play in the County Ladies Football Final with St Val’s against Mourneabbey on 7 October at CIT.
