Páirc life for ladies footballers

Wednesday, 16th January, 2019 4:42pm

History is set to be made this year as the Cork Ladies Footballers will play their first and second games ever in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Despite 11 All-Ireland titles in 12 years, the ladies footballers have never played a game in Cork's flagship stadium. They will play two of their Lidl National Football League games there, the first against Tipperary at 5pm on 23 February in a doubleheader with the male footballers who will play Meath afterwards at 7pm.

On 16 March, the Cork Ladies will line out at Páirc Uí Chaoimh once again, this time against Donegal in what will be a repeat of the 2018 TG4 All-Ireland semi-final between the two counties. That game will throw-in at 12pm, and precedes the men’s fixture between the two counties at 2pm.

In recent weeks, the Ladies Gaelic Football Association has been in close consultation with the Cork County Board and Páirc Uí Chaoimh, in order to facilitate the fixtures.

Speaking on behalf of Cork GAA, Chairperson Tracey Kennedy said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to host these double-headers in Páirc Uí Chaoimh and hope that the people of Cork show up in numbers to support both our women's and men's football teams on these two very special occasions.”
