New season, new look

Wednesday, 9th August, 2017 4:45pm

Another few weeks and we will see the Christmas decorations in the shops but during the summer we had fashion weeks from Paris Milan and New York.

Makeup trends vary from season to season and there has been a massive trend of late to go natural. This season will see an unapologetic return to the bold make up rather than the natural neutrals we have seen this year so far. I am delighted.

Metallic is going to be huge, as predicted. I don’t mean a dab in the centre of the lid either, they will be bold and sweeping with hues of silver pewter and gold featuring heavily on the catwalks.

Black cream eyeshadow is being used to contrast the bold hues, and to simplify this look for yourself, choose a dark grey smoky shadow and add some loose pigment over the top to bling the look up.

For me it reminds me a little of Cleopatra and her heavily kohled eye with lashings of mascara. Spotted on the catwalks of Chloe, overloaded black liner is in for AW.

Recreate the look with Note Cosmetics Intense Look Eye Pencil, €9.95, which provides intense coverage with a single application. If you are looking for an easy option try YSL liquid eyeshadow. Choose from vibrant shades that last for up to 16 hours without creasing, flaking, or fading. This pigment-packed liquid shadow has been formulated with 40 per cent water for a cooling effect and pure colour payoff. The exclusive applicator allows you to create three signature looks from a full lid, just the line or a graphic eye look.

Monsieur Big Mascara by Lancôme (€27) will coat your lashes in thick mascara giving you volume and length with two easy sweeps. The black colour is a powerful addition and the brush means bigger bolder lashes in a jiffy.

If you love faux lashes, then it’s all about Twiggy-esque lashes this AW - take your look from simply pretty to strikingly stunning with KISS Blooming lashes in ‘Lily’ (€7.95) created with a multi-angle technology that adds length, depth and volume.

Berry lips are the order of the day for AW17 and the nicest berry tones come from a liquid matte finish. Look to Isa Dora for a light berry shade in its Ultra Matt Liquid Lipstick, €11.95. Long wearing with a sheer coverage, it will add a nuance of colour without leaving the lips dry or flaky.

For a more defined bolder finish, then WetnWild liquid catsuit gives a robust pigment with deep berry shades featuring quite heavily and all for under €5.

Visually daring, the deepest reds are applied with aplomb. NYX's velvety smooth Soft Matte Lip Cream (€6.95) delivers a burst of creamy colour and sets to a stunning matte finish. Surprisingly durable, lightweight and delightfully creamy, it’s no wonder this is flying off the shelves.

If shine is your preferred look, then who am I to stop you getting a posh lip-gloss? YSL Vinyl Cream (€27) dresses lips in full coverage colour and high-impact vinyl shine. The diamond shaped applicator allows for perfect lip contouring and the colour glides on evenly in just one stroke. The creamy formula provides ten hour wear and all-day comfort so lips look and feel beautiful. There are some amazing shades and I used a beautiful coral one at a wedding recently.

In terms of brows, it’s all about the old school brows, perfectly groomed and neat and I would recommend Sleek's Make Up Brow Kit (€10.49), the ultimate product to create perfect brows with plenty of impact. Using the shaping wax and setting powder provided, defining your brows will help to frame your face, whilst opening up the eye area dramatically.

If Pat Butcher was your idol, then you would love Vivienne Westwood’s take on eyes, which saw dramatic cobalt blue eyeshadow as the centrepiece of her look.

Catwalk makeup never translates exactly to real life, but I do believe that you can take points and wear them well. Skincare is an important part of any makeup look, because great skin is the best base for all looks regardless of the age of the person wearing the look.

Next week, I will be bringing you a montage of some of my favourite new releases on the skincare front. As they say, makeup is optional but skincare essential.
