The hottest trends at the lowest prices

I would love to have unlimited money for cosmetics but, like everyone, the bills are my priority.

August and September can be a trying time on our purse with paying off holidays and back to school.

I love trying out newer trends in makeup, but if there is something I am unsure of I will always opt for a pharmacy purchase over a department store one. This is an inexpensive way of updating your make up arsenal, but keeping up with the world of cosmetics; which now changes with the seasons just like fashion.

Everything in this piece will be under €10 with some even being under €5 to keep you on budget and leave some of your disposable income for some further indulgence.

Metallic: I mentioned a few weeks ago that it was a trend I was looking forward to and there are some amazing additions to the Essence range with their theme being ‘metal shock’.

My top picks are the lip paint which as the name suggests is a liquid paint-on product that adds a shiny look with a matte finish, €4.10.

For eyes, the liner glides on and you can transform your upper liner from bland to gilded in a matter of seconds. The Essence liners are easy to use, but they are quite wet so do leave them a few minutes to dry. Of course, the minute you don’t want to blink is always the time that you do.

Berry lips are the other big trend; with light berry shades to deeper merlot and in some cases almost blueberry shades, this trend will really come into its own around October.

Bold lips are something that any age can wear. I love more vibrant reds but I must say that burgundy has in recent times won me over, because the clothing in the shops now has a huge focus on this colour.

L.O.V. have captured this perfectly with the colour ‘Dark revenge’ in the Fatale Muse Liquid Matte lipstick, €8.95.

If you’d prefer a selection, then the lip pallette by Essence will answer your prayers. Absolutely perfect for creating an Ombre lip, or just a bold shock of colour, use a lip brush to artistically create a look worthy of any beauty editor.

Try it with the new Wet n’ Wild Gel lip pencils which slide on effortlessly and come in six shades. They are easy to wear and even easier on the pocket at €3.95.

When you are being bold with the lips, you can play down the eyes too, so it is really a time saver. There are no rules of course but a bold lip looks superb with a bold graphic liner and lots of mascara.

A soft eyeshadow works well with this look too and L.O.V. have their Unexpected eyeshadow that retails at €6.95, the colour ‘Ballet Dream’ offers a soft focus creamy finish which can double as a highlighter too. The iridescent finish means that it blends seamlessly and looks expensive.

For your waterline, their Best Dressed liner glides on effortlessly and for a mere €7.95, the silky finish coupled with the convenience of an automatic pencil, means that you can top it up on the go.

If you like a nice quad eyeshadow, then Note Cosmetics Luminous Silky Quattro at €9.99 are perfect. They are soft and easy to blend as well as having vibrant pigment and pay-off. They come with applicators but need the sweep of a brush for the full effect. The colour pallettes complement each other perfectly, as well as the satin finish which suits all ages.

Next week, I am doing a piece on the under €20 price range and also mid-price foundations.
