Mask your way to great skin

Wednesday, 31st October, 2018 4:40pm

Face masks have always been one of my favourite ways to treat myself and last week I showed you that single use sheet masks are great on the go and to get your glow on. They are a nice way to get some 'me' time, especially if you are a busy mum that can’t get five minutes to herself.

Prior to masking, I always think it is a good idea to cleanse and balance the skin so that you are starting off with a good canvas.

Sometimes there can be a temptation to just slap them on (I am guilty of this on occasion) but please always start with cleansed skin, at the very least.

Follow the instructions carefully too - if a mask says to leave it on for a specific length of time then adhere to the instructions, particularly if it has active ingredients in it. Avoid the eye contour area too unless it is for the eyes, as overfeeding this area can cause puffiness and milia.

Neo Strata Glycolic Treatment Mask (€40) is a great one if you have an event coming up as you do it once per week for four weeks. It contains AHAs that exfoliate and resurface to melt away all the dead skin, especially if you overdid it on makeup and products.

The application is simple; you are given a cleanser and single use pad soaked in the solution, then a Bionic face cream for use after. It may tingle a little when you apply the solution. You will see an immediate result but the real brightness comes once you have completed the fourth. The pack includes the four treatments.

Image Vital C Hydrating Enzyme Mask is the perfect skin resurfacing agent. This masque uses natural enzymatic exfoliants to gently dissolve the accumulation of dead skin cells that dull the surface of the skin. It infuses skin with protective antioxidants and vitamins that nourish and promote healthy looking skin. I love to use this before doing my skincare just once a week. Afterwards, I feel that my serums work far better, and they absorb faster.

Yonka Hydra No.1 Masque (€50) is a gel cream texture mask that offers hydration to all skin types. The essential oil-infused floral aroma makes this a great one for the bath. You can leave this on overnight as well, of course, but I like to apply a thicker layer and leave for around 40 minutes.

It is quite soothing and afterwards your skin feels plumper and softer. The idea of this masque is to just nurture and replenish the skin so if you are tight or dehydrated, it will feel super comforting.

Skinceutcals Clarifying Clay Mask (€60) is the best one I have every used on acne or oily skin. The texture itself is cooling initially and then it dries. The deeply nourishing face mask uses a potent combination of kaolin and bentonite earth clays to lift away impurities.

Enriched with the highest quality earth clays, botanicals, minerals and a hydroxy acid blend, the non-drying mask helps to unclog congested pores, sweep away excess oil and gently exfoliate to remove dead skin cells. With aloe and chamomile to calm and soothe the complexion, the rich formula leaves skin bright, mattified and visibly healthy.

Elizabeth Arden Prevage City Smart Double Action Detox Peel Off Mask (€70) is an innovative multi-tasking peel off mask that delivers immediate and overtime detoxifying results to reveal a brighter, smoother and virtually pore-less complexion.

The texture when applying is that of a medium texture gel which spreads easily. A blend of powerful antioxidants; idebenone (the ingredient that is in the serum) and thiotaine instantly neutralises free skin damaging radicals on the surface of the skin. And as a bonus, if you purchase two products at Elizabeth Arden in Debenhams you will get a great gift with your purchase which includes a stunning makeup purse, too.

Dermalogica Stress Positive eye mask (€60) is an active, cooling cream-gel masque which energises skin to reduce visible signs of stress. High-performance formula minimises the appearance of puffiness and dark circles, increases skin luminosity, lifts the eye area and helps restore skin barrier integrity.

Wild indigo seed actives brighten to help visibly reduce under-eye circles. Sea water extract and arctic algae counter the look of puffiness. Fermented yeast and a unique hyaluronic acid blend firm skin to help generate a lifting effect. The cooling metal applicator makes it a dream to apply. You can use it overnight or as a booster when masking your face.

Vichy LiftActiv Micro Hyalu Eye Patches (€20) are a pure hyaluronic acid-powered shot for an overnight transformation, when you need it most. Inspired by the micro-needling procedures, the Micro Hyalu Patches each contain 160 micro-cones of solidified hyaluronic acid of natural origin, which penetrate and melt onto the skin throughout the night for optimal diffusion in the periocular area.

Wake up to wrinkles and crows’ feet filled in and the eye-contour looking refreshed and rejuvenated. These stay on all night and really work.
