Perfect party looks for the festive season

Wednesday, 5th December, 2018 4:45pm

Party makeup doesn’t have to be daunting and there are no rules when it comes to the festive season. Sequins and sparkle adorn our bodies, so we can be audacious with our makeup, too.

There is a brand out there to suit all budgets this festive season and make sure to add lashes to ensure ultimate glamour.

Let’s start first with some amazing bases.

For a budget base (€12.95), Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation is the best; it offers colour correction and a nice luminous finish for perfect party photos. I must say the colour range for Irish skin tones is fantastic and there is vitamin E in it which helps the drier skin keep radiance.

If you have oily skin, then Isa Dora Active Skin is an oil free foundation (€19.95) aimed at the woman with the busy life - I think this will take you from desk to dancefloor in a jiffy and it can be built to a fuller coverage foundation.

The tool I have found handiest in foundation application has been the Ciara Daly foundation brush (€29.95). It won't waste your product and offers a seamless application, by offering the ability to pat your foundation into your face. It gives optimum lasting power and is the brainchild of an Irish woman. She also has a brush cleanser to match which is so fast at spot cleaning your brushes.

If you want a luxury foundation, then there is nothing nicer for coverage and luminosity than Mac Pro Long Wear Nourishing Foundation (€39). The gel texture glides onto your skin and won’t sit in fine lines, it is my all-time favourite luxe foundation for long wear. It comes in a regular pro long wear too for oilier skin types and with a more matte finish if that is what you love.

For mature skin, you cannot beat Shiseido Synchro Skin (€40) which has an abundance of light and radiance and looks just like a second skin. It won’t make pores and wrinkles too obvious and is good to last also. It enhances the clarity of your skin and it also oil free.

From a mascara perspective, you must try the range by Note Cosmetics if you are looking for a great budget brand. Note Lash Master Mascara (€14.95) curls, thickens and adds volume to your eyelashes in a single stroke. Antioxidants help reduce sensitivity while vitamin E nourishes and moisturises the eyelash roots. The flexible brush ensures a beautiful and natural look without clumps or flakes.

Add some Kiss Lashes to your eyes if you want fluttering lashes or a more tailored look with individual lashes.

My current lash wardrobe is awash with big fluttery styles, the most flattering being the Corset lash style which features voluminous, layers of lashes with curled ends. Triple design technology delivers three lash designs in one strip for enhanced volume, length and eye-lifting curl every time.

For lips there really is only one lipstick to buy this holiday season, makeup’s answer to the power suit, Huda Beauty’s first-ever bullet lipstick collection (€21). It introduces three gorgeously metallic shades – dazzling magenta pink, daring purple and dramatic red – just in time for the holiday season.

Soon to be cult-collectables, the limited-edition lipsticks are laced with a revolutionary mix of multi-reflective glitter, kaleidoscopic pearl pigments and iridescent shimmer for a high-impact 3D finish so you can enjoy the loose glitter effect, without the mess.

And finally, my top tip is to leave cleanser and cotton wool on the pillow, so that if you overindulge in food and fizz you will at least not sleep in your makeup!
