So Last Season

Budapest and beyond

Wednesday, 2nd May, 2018 4:37pm

I’m back from my mini break, and true to form, I now want to move to Budapest. It’s such a cool city with a great mix of history and culture, and while we saw a lot on our three day trip, you really get the feeling you’ve only scratched the surface of what the city has to offer.

You really are spoiled for choice when it comes to bars and restaurants and I naturally gravitated to the most Instagram-worthy brunch spots where the avocado was in abundance.

We stayed in the Jewish quarter, and to my delight, there were plenty of vintage stores on my street where vintage pieces mixed with young local designers.

I picked up a few dresses, as well as an original Laura Ashley printed jumpsuit which I’m still undecided on whether it looks cute or horrendous, but may just need the right accessorising. As with anything I’m sure it can be made to look better with the addition of my trusty denim jacket and some tan leather sandals.

I also picked up a vintage polka dot skirt even though I already have one in the same black on white colourway but I reasoned with myself that it’s a completely different shape to my other one, and my parents bought me a printed dress that I’ve already worn three times, such is my love of the shape and how comfortable it is.

I also had been on the lookout for a traditional Hungarian embroidered blouse before I left and so I scoured the markets for one over there and picked up one for a great price. They really are like works of art.

Now it wouldn’t be my column unless I bitched about the weather. It was so lovely to be able to walk around without a jacket on but the temperature reached 30 degrees while we were there. It’s quite hard to sightsee in that heat and of course on the day we went to the outdoor thermal baths (which are like taking a giant communal bath with strangers but in a totally relaxing and lovely way).

I of course burnt my forehead. Give me the heat any day even though I now have a peeling forehead but I put this down to not having had the chance to use my factor 50 in a long time.

While it was nice to get away, it was business as usual once I returned and back to personal shopping and styling. I’ve got a few shows and events coming up in May, so I’m in full prep mode for those.

One really interesting one I’ll be speaking at is The Polka Dot Dreaming Wedding Clinic and I’ll be chit chatting about my own wedding and the whole process of arriving at my wedding style.

I, of course, need no excuse to chat weddings and hopefully I’ll be able to offer the brides-to-be some tips for their own weddings.

I wish this had been around when I was planning my wedding as Aisling from Polka Dot Dreaming has really gathered the best in wedding vendors and suppliers and knowing they have that seal of approval makes it easier to make that decision on who the right suppliers are for you. Plus there’s prosecco and afternoon tea which really is what wedding planning is all about!
