So Last Season

Fashion bonanza hits Cork

Wednesday, 5th September, 2018 4:32pm

I’m off to Sweden this week which is great obviously, but of course, it’s also the week in which lots of great fashion events are happening in Cork city and which I am going to miss.

There seems to be a pattern here as every September I seem to have a wedding abroad. First world problem I know.

However if you don’t have a wedding this weekend, and aren’t holidaying abroad, then you need to get yourself into Cork city centre for a weekend of free fashion activities.

The Cork City Centre Fashion Show and Trail will kick off on Friday night at The Atrium at City Hall and will be hosted by the fabulous Brendan Courtney. We’ve all known for some time that there is a wealth of fashion and style on offer in Cork and this show is the perfect showcase for this offering a beautifully curated show with the best of what the Cork boutiques and department stores have to offer.

Pre-drinks in the Atrium and music by Stevie G ensure this is a night not to be missed. Entry to the event is with pre-booked tickets so book now or keep an eye on social media to be in with a chance of winning some tickets.

If you can’t make the show, then fear not you can still get your weekend fashion fix. The following day sees a fashion trail taking place in the city centre with a host of free events and workshops which are open to everyone.

If high street is your thing, then there are two excellent events happening on Opera Lane which are not to be missed. Gap and the fantastic duo that are Nessa and Leona from Dreaming Always have teamed up to host three fashion workshops during the day with their personal style edit of kidswear. It’s definitely one not to be missed for fashion inspo for the mini fashionistas in your life or if you just enjoy good fashion chats. You can also head along to Topshop where style advisor Lauren will be showcasing seasonal trends and giving a sneak preview of the AW18 collection.

If you fancy some vintage style, then pop along to Miss Daisy Blue where stylist Yvonne will be hosting a vintage workshop. Trust me when I tell you she will pull some stunning looks together and will have you completely fashion inspired.

If hair and accessories float your boat, and let’s face it, when do they not, then you are in for a treat. Aisling Kelleher will be hosting a bridal upstyle event in Azure Jewellery and Ger Wyatt will be in Bauhaus with a couture hair and accessory demo. For those with a creative flair, pop along to Vibes and Scribes on Bridge Street for a millinery demo using feathers, flowers and hat bases.

Let me tell you I am very envious of everyone who gets to go to these fab events so much so that the thought of not going to Sweden had crossed my mind, but I have a feeling this is only the beginning of the Cork City Fashion Show and Trail, so hopefully nobody I know will book a wedding abroad next September!

This is just a selection of all the events going on, so check out their Instagram or Facebook page for a full rundown of events and all the info you need including times and locations.

Now all that’s left for me to do is pack, which of course is proving tremendously stressful when going to a country that you’ve never been to, and have no idea what the weather will be like. The bride has messaged to say bring a brolly so maybe it’s not that unlike our own weather really. I’ll let you know next week!
