Back in the Dark Ages, when I was a student in London, velvet body suits and dubious drinking establishments were obligatory. As a ‘Paddy’ abroad, we could easily be identified by a complete lack of fashion sense and by our choice of pub - usually a dingy ‘Oirish’ kip in north-west London.
