Spike Island

The official launch of The Aud Exhibition on Spike Island will take place on Saturday 17 December on the island. Places on the boat over and back will be limited but for those interested in attending, more information is available by emailing cork.heritage@corkcoco.ie.

UCC Homecoming

This year’s Christmas Homecoming for Alumni & Friends of UCC will take place from 5.30pm–7.30pm on Thursday 22 December in UCC’s Aula Maxima. Tickets cost €10 and are now available to purchase online at community@ucc.ie.

Mallow musical

Michael Twomey presents ‘The Way we were in 1916: A look back at life in Ireland a century ago, as told in words and music’ with soprano Linda Kenny and musician Alan Carney at Mallow Library on Saturday 17 December at 2.30pm. The event is free but booking is advised. Phone Mallow Library at 022-21821.

Times Past

Muskerry Local History Society’s journal ‘Times Past 2015-16’ was launched before a huge crowd in Ballincollig Rugby Club on Monday 5 December. The journal includes articles on Oriel House, a photographic history of the Royal Gunpowder Mills, tobacco growing in the locality and the rise of the Irish Volunteers. The journal is available in many local shops.

Whitechurch Macra

Whitechurch Macra recently held its now-annual timber appeal at the Deane family farm in Carrignavar. Members of Whitechurch Macra loaded, cut, split, bagged and delivered an unprecedented 266 bags of timber. The timber was then house-delivered by members. The Macra wishes to thanks everyone who supported the event.

St Luke’s concert

St Luke’s Male Voice Choir will perform at St Luke’s Church on Friday 16 December at 6pm. Over the last 11 years, the choir has donated well over €100,000 to Marymount Hospice - thanks to the generous support of the people of Cork.

Seandun Macra

Seandun Macra will host a drama workshop on Thursday 15 December at the Viaduct Inn on the Bandon Road at 8pm. This will give clubs interested in taking part in the Macra drama competition in the New Year some insight into how to select a play and cast and produce a one-act drama. All are welcome to attend.

Christmas fair

The West Cork Arts Centre Christmas Fair takes place on Saturday 17 December from 10am-5pm and Sunday 18 December from 11am-4pm, in the Uillinn Building in Skibbereen. The fair will showcase local crafts, gifts, carol singing and a puppet show. Admission is free.
