Anam Cara

Anam Cara is holding a Bereavement Information Evening on Wednesday 18 January from 7.30-9.30pm in the Maritime Hotel in Bantry. The organisation gives bereaved mums and dads a chance to meet and connect with other bereaved parents in a safe and comfortable setting. The meeting is open to all.

Inclusivity award

Carrigaline United Soccer Club was named the Most Inclusive Sports Club in Ireland at the CARA National Inclusion Awards in Dublin’s Crowne Plaza Hotel recently. The club won for its FAI Football for All programme, which helps children of varying abilities get involved in soccer. The awards recognise excellence in promoting sport and inclusion for disabled people.

Lecture on canals

The Cork Literary and Scientific Society is hosting a lecture by explorer, writer, photographer and broadcaster Jasper Winn entitled ‘The Water Roads - following Britain’s Canals Afoot and Afloat’. The lecture takes place in the Crawford Art Gallery, Emmet Place on Thursday 12 January at 8pm. Non-members welcome, tickets €8.

Book signing

French author Nicole Delacour has written a novel inspired by her travels in Ireland. The book, “Where Your Footsteps Lead You”, has now been translated into English. Nicole will be signing copies of the book in Scannell’s Bar, Clonakilty this Sunday 8 January from 3-5pm. All are welcome.

Safety Forum

There will be a South Central Community Safety Forum on Wednesday 11 January at 7.30pm at the Turner’s Cross Community Centre. This forum is an opportunity for members of the public to raise community safety issues of concern in their area. Residents and traders of Barrack Street and all surrounding areas are welcome to attend.

First Light event

First Light will hold a Little Christmas empowerment event at the DeCalf Café at the Cornmarket Centre in Cork this Friday, 6 January, at 8pm. Guest speakers solicitor Gerald Keane, actress Leigh Arnold and author and mountaineer Pat Falvey will share their highs and lows and discuss how they rose to the top of their fields. Tickets for the event cost €30 and include food, wine and spot prizes. All proceeds will go towards professional services for recently bereaved parents. Active Retired

Following a successful Christmas dinner party in December, the Carrigaline Active Retired Association (CARA) will be back on Wednesday January 11 with card playing and Frankie’s line dancing in the Parish Centre from 2.30-4.30pm. Irish language Mass

The monthly Aifreann Gaeilge (Irish Mass) takes place at 10am this Sunday January 8 at St John’s Church in Carrigaline. Mass leaflets will be available at the door. Singers are invited to join the Cór Gaeilge (choir), which is performing at the Mass.
