Shandon history lecture

Shandon Area History Group will hold a lecture entitled ‘An Illustrated History of Cork City’ by historian Liam Ó hUigín at COFFA House, Church St next Wednesday 8 March at 7.30pm. All are welcome.

Tractor Run

There will be a Tractor Run in aid of Dromcollogher Respite Care Centre this Sunday 5 March. Registration takes place at the centre between 11am and noon. All makes of tractors are welcome, with separate runs for modern and vintage tractors planned for the event. Refreshments served and all are welcome. Call 087-9354090 for more information.

Mahon Girl Guides

Girl Guides meet at 5.15pm each Thursday at Mahon Community Centre. New members are always welcome. For more information, call over to the centre.

Cork Blademasters

The Cork Blademasters meet every Thursday night from 8-10pm and Monday evening from 7-9 pm at the Mahon Community Centre. New members are always welcome. The group invites any curious about the sport to come along to any meeting and find out about it.

Fitness classes

There are full body workout fitness classes at Mahon Community Centre at 10am every Monday. The cost is €5 euro per class and all levels of fitness welcome. Contact Noel Quinn on 087-7558970.

Political clinics

Several local representatives hold their clinics at Mahon Community Centre. Micheal Martin TD is there on Mondays between 11am and 12 noon, Cllr Nicholas O’Keeffe is there on Wednesdays from 1.15-2pm and Senator Jerry Buttimer is available Fridays from 12.30-1.30pm.

Historical talk on ballooning

On Monday 6 March, Muskerry Local History will hold a lecture on the first balloon flight over Cork, which Windham Sadler undertook in 1816. He was also the first person to cross the Irish Sea in a balloon, a feat which had failed his father James. The talk will be given by Mark Davies, author of ‘King of All Balloons: The Adventurous Life of James Sadler, the first English Aeronaut’. The lecture takes place at 8pm in Ballincollig Rugby Club.

Carrigaline Macra Quiz

Carrigaline Macra Na Feirme will host a table quiz in Bridgie’s Bar, Ballygarvan on 8 March at 8pm. Top prizes on the night include an overnight stay for two in the River Lee Hotel and two tickets for a Munster rugby game. All are welcome and any support would be greatly appreciated.
