New route announcement for cork airport today

The Transport Minister is in Cork today for the exepected announcement of a new route between Cork and Dusseldorf.

Although it has yet to be confirmed that Dusseldorf is the newest location to be added to Cork Airport's catalogue of routes, sourcing are indicating that the new Aer Lingus route will be confirmed as the German city today.

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe T.D will announce the route at about 1.45pm at Cork Airport. The Minister will be joined by Stephen Kavanagh CEO of Aer Lingus; Kevin Toland, CEO of Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) and Niall MacCarthy, CEO of Cork Airport.

The announcement follows last week's new CityJet route from Cork to London City Airport which which is expected to bring an extra 100,000 passengers through Cork Airport.

The 18-times-weekly service between Cork and London will fly from 1 October and will operate three flights on weekdays, one return flight on Saturdays and two flights on Sundays, with tickets on sale immediately. The first flight will depart from Cork at 7.40am, and the new service will add 3,420 available seats each week from the airport.
