New bus facilities opened
Commuters in Kinsale are said to be experiencing improvements on the 226 bus service. It comes as new bus facilities were officially opened in the coastal town this week.
This included a newly constructed shelter and a re-located terminus stop which is said to have significantly increased efficiency and reliability of the 226 bus service serving Kinsale, Cork and Cork Airport and the Local Link service to Clonakilty.
According to Bus Éireann, it has resulted in reduced journey time by as much as 20 minutes during rush hour.
Mayor of Cork Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy opened the facilities on Monday. “There’s been an excellent improvement to the public transport infrastructure in Kinsale. The new stop provides a much safer and more comfortable environment for waiting for the bus and disembarking both for local people and visitors to the town.”
The new facilities are wheelchair accessible, feature a large four-bay bus shelter with an automatic barrier, controlled bus exit and accommodate double-deck, tri-axle coaches on the route facilitating increased capacity and improved service. The newly constructed footpaths, LED public lighting, resurfacing works and controlled pedestrian crossing on Pier Road all result in improved accessibility.
