Steven Beattie re-signed for Cork City this week.

Fan favourite Beattie returns to the Cross

Having expressed his desire to return to Turner’s Cross, Beattie is the latest signing under manager Colin Healy ahead of the 2021 season, with a number of players confirmed in recent weeks.

Former Ringmahon Rangers schoolboy Uniss Kargbo signed his first professional contract with the club after breaking into the team at the latter stages of last season while former Cobh Ramblers goalkeeper Paul Hunt has signed with City following a spell with Munster Senior League team Leeside. Cory Galvin was signed at the start of the year after playing with Waterford FC last year.

Furthermore, Mark McNulty, Alec Byrne, Cian Bargary, Darragh Crowley, Gearóid Morrissey, Rob Slevin, Cian Murphy, David Harrington, Josh Honohan, Cian Coleman, Dale Holland, Ronan Hurley and Beineón O'Brien-Whitmarsh have all resigned with City.

Speaking this week about his return to Cork, Beattie said: “I am just delighted to be back. It is obviously very different from 2016/17/18, but it is a new challenge and I am home. I always wanted to come back at some stage, now I am here and I want to enjoy my football again. I know Colin very well from playing with him in 2015; a great man, a brilliant coach and he did a fantastic job at the academy. I just want to get started now and try to get the club back to where it belongs.

“When I left, I didn’t think I would get the chance to play in Turner’s Cross again, but I saw what has gone on over the last couple of years and I just really wanted to get back and play my part in getting this club back to the Premier Division. I don’t care how young or inexperienced our squad is; Colin and Cotts (John Cotter) will get the boys ready to go.”

Furthermore City recently announced the appointment of Liam Kearney as the club’s Head of Academy.
