John Torode filmed for two days in the Blue Haven in Kinsale.

Cork’s food scene stars in new UK food show

Australian celebrity chef John Torode’s new show features a number of great Cork locations as he travels around Ireland exploring the great food here.

The six-part TV series follows the ‘MasterChef’ judge as he tours, tastes and cooks his way around Ireland. Filming of ‘John Torode's Ireland’ took place earlier this year and was supported by Tourism Ireland.

Two episodes of the six feature Cork chefs with the third episode featuring a visit to the English Market. He also travelled to Ballymaloe Cookery School to meet with Darina Allen and Rachel Allen.

Indeed Ballymaloe Cookery School featured on tv screens in Britain a few months ago when it was seen by around 7.5 million people during the season finale of ‘MasterChef’. The school was filmed as part of the final part of the show featuring in three episodes broadcast over one week on BBC One.

Episode four, which aired recently, chef Torode met Martin Shanahan, of the well-known Fishy Fishy Restaurant in Kinsale, which of course is a very food orientated town. Dingle also featured in episode 4.

Torode also visited Kinsale’s newest dining experience, Rare 1784 at the Blue Haven Hotel. The Blue Haven’s Ciarán Fitzgerald and Head Chef Meeran Manzoor filmed with him over two days.

Ciarán said: “We were so honoured to have one of our food icons John Torode come and experience what we are doing at Rare. The last 2 years allowed time for our team to get creative and think outside the box when it came to the creation of Rare. We then focused on the execution and delivery, bringing the creativity of the kitchen and beverage team to the customer in a very different and unique way.”

The series is being aired on the Food Network UK. It will also be available on discovery+.

Julie Wakley, Tourism Ireland’s Head of Great Britain, said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to support the production of this new six-part TV series, ‘John Torode's Ireland’. With a large audience right across Britain set to tune into the series on the Food Network UK and discovery+, it’s a great way to shine a spotlight on Ireland – showcasing our delicious local produce and beautiful landscapes. It will remind viewers across Britain that Ireland is a great choice for a holiday with a wonderful culinary offering.

“Publicity and broadcasts like this are a key element of Tourism Ireland’s programme of activity, to encourage travellers in Britain, and elsewhere around the world, to put Ireland on their holiday wish-list.”
