Tasty treats from local vendors
10,000 people are expected to descend on Cork city for this year's Cork and Kerry Food Market. This year's market will see two seperate events starting with an after work celebration on the Friday which will focus on craft drinks and food pairings. Cocktail master classes and master brewer talks will be on from 5-10pm on the evening of the over 18s event.
A more family friendly event on Saturday will feature more than 70 artisan food and drink producers and cookery demonstrations by Kevin Dundon and the Happy Pear. There will be interactive demos from the regions top local chefs. Children's entertainment will kick off from 10am on the day.
Speaking of the event, Joe Burke, Local Enterprise Office South Cork said: “With Brexit on the horizon, we should make an extra effort to support Irish producers and also look to source alternative Irish produce as there is no guarantee that the food we normally consume will be available in a post Brexit Ireland.”
“Today’s consumers are extremely conscious of the importance of supporting and buying local and constantly seek out local products which is why we are passionate about supporting the Cork Kerry Food Market which in turn supports the creation of new jobs in the region,” said Carmel Biggane, Food Academy Project Manager.
A recent survey of more than 400 people carried out by the Local Enterprise Offices in Cork and Kerry found out that 88 per cent of people believe that locally made Irish food and drink are better for our well-being. The survey, that marked the launch of the Cork and Kerry Food Market event, also found that 87 per cent of people make a special effort to seek out and buy Irish made products.
The Cork and Kerry Food Market takes place from 1-2 November. For more information visit the Cork and Kerry Food Market page on Facebook.
