Creative learning from St Als

Wednesday, 9th January, 2019 5:07pm

Students and teachers of a Cork school recently put their heads together to make learning more meaningful.

St Aloysius Girl’s Secondary School students worked with their teachers before the Christmas break to design bookmarks to support students’ creative visual and writing skills.

The project, called A View from St Als, was a collaboration between the school’s design and English departments and Eason on St Patrick’s Street.

Eason's executive Alex Lenihan praised the girls’ work and said she was impressed with their poetic and insightful writing as well as their commercial prowess in printmaking.

Winning bookmark messages from the girls were: ‘Hope is the soft voice that whispers perhaps through the panes and portals of our times.’

‘Listen now for hope’s low hum.’ And ‘No matter what shape or size you are we are all wonder woman.’

Principal of St Aloysius Girl’s Secondary School Richel Long said she believes in creating targeted and meaningful learning opportunities for the girls in the school.
