Wednesday, 9th January, 2019 5:07pm

The deadline for entries for this year's ActionAid Speech Writing Competition is fast approaching.

ActionAid has put out a final call for entries for their annual writing competition, open to teenagers aged 14-17. Now in its fifth year, the ActionAid Speech Writing Competition is funded by Irish Aid as part of a public engagement programme to raise awareness and support for international development issues.

Eight people will be shortlisted to deliver their speech at the national final in Dublin’s Royal Irish Academy on 20 March. The prize for the top two winners is a trip to Greece to see ActionAid’s work first hand.

Siobhán McGee, ActionAid Ireland’s CEO said: “The competition is an exciting way for young people to voice their opinion on issues that matter to them, whilst developing their public speaking skills and confidence. Each year the number of entries continues to grow and we hope that this year is no exception. The quality of entries from county Cork has been consistently high and I would strongly encourage all young people to enter.”

The closing date for the competition is 18 January. For further details and how to enter, visit, call 01-8787911 or email
