Jean and Tomás say 'I do'

Thursday, 17th October, 2019 8:52am

Jean Jones from Monkstown and Tomás Sheehan from Waterfall tied the knot on 14 September during a beautiful ceremony in front of their family and friends.

We caught up with Jean recently to learn all about their big day.

Tells us about the day?

“We had our ceremony at the Sacred Heart Church in Monkstown, which is my local church. We had our reception at the Kinsale Hotel and Spa. We were immediately blown away by the views from the reception room out over Oysterhaven Bay. We looked at at least a dozen other venues and none of them came close to the atmosphere at the Kinsale Hotel. Alison, the wedding coordinator is just top notch and she went above and beyond to cater to our every need. She really is fantastic and made planning the wedding an absolute breeze.

We had the Munster String Quartet for our ceremony. Then the violinist Aine O’Halloran played music during the dinner also. We absolutely loved the quirky vibe they brought to our ceremony, playing classics such as 'All You Need is Love' by the Beatles and 'Beautiful Day' by U2. At dinner Aine played everything and anything, all the guests just loved her. She even played the 'Toy Story' theme tune for the kiddies!

As wedding favours, instead of the usual chocolates, we had custom made wild flower seed packets made for our guests to take home and spread in their gardens to help save the bees.

My hair was done by Upstyle Junkie and my make-up by Crazy Dolls. All jewellery and the headpiece was created by Audrey at Azure Jewellery. The groom and groomsman suits were from Tom Murphy Menswear and the page boys suits were from Next.

I got the bridesmaids dresses from Virgo Boutique in Limerick.

Also my mother Rose Jones did all the flowers. We purchased the flowers from Central Flower Supplies and she created all the bouquets, buttonholes and flower arrangements.

The only thing we would change about the day would be for the time to pass a little slower. The day just flies by and before you know, it's all done and dusted. So enjoy every second with your friends and family because hopefully you’ll only be doing this once!”

What was the most memorable part of the day?

“We can’t pick one thing really. We both loved every minute. Everything just came together and all the planning really did pay off. Unpredictable perks were however the fabulous summers day we were so lucky to have and our two little men being as good as gold all day. I’m pleased to say it was a tantrum-free celebration!”

What was the most difficult aspect to organise?

“That would be our wedding cake. I made our wedding cake and although I loved making it, albeit a bit of a juggling act with two small kids, I found it near impossible to settle on a design for the cake. It took me weeks to decide on a design and even at that I continuously changed my mind whilst making it, but I have to say I was very happy with the end result.”

Did you try on many dresses before finding the one?

“I tried on about fifteen dresses before choosing my dress. The minute I tried on my dress, by designer Paloma Blanca, I just knew it was the dress for me. It just suits my personality and style to a tee. I bought my dress at Say I Do in Midleton.”

How did you two meet?

“We met through my dear friend and bridesmaid Miss Bernadette Reynolds, over ten years ago. We have two wonderful boys, Oscar aged six and Henry aged three. Tomás proposed to me almost four years ago on the Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence Italy.”

Any advice for couples planning a wedding?

“Don't stress about the little things, everything really does all fall into place on the day. Take the time early on to book the vendors you like to ensure they are free for your date. We were so happy we booked The Ian Hendricks Band three years before our wedding as they really were unbelievable on the night and created such a fun atmosphere. The dance floor was full all night long.”
