An ace shrub in every sense

Japanese maples are the crème de la crème of every garden.

They are compact, dense shrubs of majestic looking small trees. Every garden can have one without the need for a simulating Japanese garden style.

Acers make an excellent focal point in the garden, particularly in autumn when their leaves turn breath-taking shades of red, crimson, orange or yellow. Many acers are slow growing and compact, making them an excellent choice for small gardens.

Grow them as a free-standing specimen, as a part of a border, or in a large container. The most important thing to remember when growing Japanese maples is to give them a sheltered position.

The beautiful, dark red leaved shrub is very striking in any garden. An exquisite and highly decorative variety that is distinctive for its magnificent, slender, dark red leaves.

The fabulous colourful foliage of this hardy ornamental shrub looks wonderful on the patio or decking. As it grows fairly slowly it is the perfect tree for small gardens and can even be planted in a spacious pot or tub. This award winning plant displays stunning red foliage.

They look like giant snowflakes cut in pieces and densely cover even young plants. The colour show begins with vibrant red in the spring, turning crimson red in early summer and deep burgundy in late summer, finishing up with vivid reddish-purple in the autumn. A sheltered position in your garden or patio is a must.

The name says it all. This grows as a compact tree or small mounding shrub. When fully grown, it will reach a height of up to four meters and a width of four metres. It typically takes between ten to twenty years to reach its full growth potential. Once established, Acer Firecracker known for its longevity and can easily live over 100 years with proper care.

The finely dissected foliage of this compact Japanese maple emerges each spring with a distinct pink flush, before becoming bronze-green and then green. In late summer red winged fruits develop and then in autumn, the leaves change colour again, this time to a vibrant red before they fall.

‘Jerre Schwartz’ has an upright habit and will look great in a large pot on the patio, or use it as a specimen in the border or lawn. Underplant it with snowdrops or crocuses to get year round interest.

This rare variety is regarded as one of the most spectacular cascading trees. It is also one of the most admired for its remarkable leaf colour.

This small tree or large shrub has large bright orange leaves in spring with vibrant orange undertones in the summer.

This colour is enhanced by a second flush of new orange leaves in midsummer which lay over the older foliage to create two tone summer colour, in the autumn, the leaves again turn fiery red and orange before shedding to the ground. This plant will amaze you every year.
