A healthy slice of family fun

Thursday, 18th July, 2019 10:29am

Thousands are expected to attend Ireland’s busiest summer festival which opens in Cork this weekend.

The Laya Healthcare City Spectacular 2019 will render Fitzgerald's Park unrecognisable for two full days when it brings its biggest and most spectacular programme yet to life on Leeside.

This summer’s festival will integrate the old and the new, mixing well-known festival favourites with a new mix of exciting programming to elevate Laya Healthcare’s City Spectacular to a whole new level.

Visitors can enjoy jaw-dropping street performances from around the world, a feel good family health and wellness area, the Just Eat Street food market, an imaginative play universe for kids, children’s storytelling and creative writing, vintage funfair rides and much more.

One of the stars of the show is world famous sideshow celebrity and 55 time Guinness World Record holder The Space Cowboy who will wow audiences with his unique performances.

Other performers include the all-female aerial acrobatics group the Silver Starlets and world champion living statue, Portugal’s Cartoonette.

Visitors can also look forward to NYC break dance troupe B-Xtreme, Rubik’s cube solving knife-master Pete Anderson's Unstable Acts and escapologist and magician Magic Brian.

The street performance stages will be hosted by Irish funny men Damo Clarke and Kevin O’Sullivan on both days.

The Just Eat Waiter Service will be taking and delivering food orders for hungry festival-goers, bringing the best of Just Eat’s online ordering service to life with over 20 stalls to choose from.

Pet-acular will return this year with official charity partner CSPCA showing off the cuddliest canines around and giving pet health advice.

Social media superstar James Patrice will host the It’s Good To Live health and wellbeing hub which will feature a number of high energy activities sure to get the blood pumping.

Returning this year is festival favourite Kid’s Court where children are given the chance to put their parents on trial and dish out sentences and punishments galore.

A Tesco Parent & Baby tent will be on site to help mums or dads needing a breather during the festival. This quiet space will be stocked with essentials to use from nappies to baby wipes.

The Laya Healthcare City Spectacular 2019 will take place this Saturday and Sunday, 20-21 July, at Fitzgerald's Park.

Entry to the festival is free and no tickets are required. Check out a map of events on pages 24-25 in this week's issue or visit
