A gold-star effort by the Amazon Customer Service Centre has seen the team raise much-needed funds for the Mercy University Hospital. The centre held a special event to highlight the innovative work being done by hospitals and charities to increase the survival rate of children with cancer, raising €1,800 for the hospital and the Childhood Cancer Foundation. The event also took place to coincide with the recent Childhood Cancer Awareness month.

Linking with Amazon colleagues around the world, the Cork team joined in on the global movement, #AmazonGoesGold, hosting a gold-themed party to support local families affected by childhood cancer. The theme paid tribute to brave children with cancer, who can spend long periods of time living in their pyjamas during treatment and recovery. A gold ribbon is the international symbol for childhood cancer awareness.

Mercy University Hospital said the donation will go to help the vital services the hospital provides which allows children who are suffering from cancer to be treated in their own homes.

Speaking on the event, Ian Semple, Site Leader at Amazon in Cork said: “Mercy University Hospital and Childhood Cancer Foundation do vital work in our community and we want to support them and the brave children and families who rely on their care.”
