New ADHD support group

Wednesday, 11th March, 2020 3:57pm

A new ADHD adult support group is being rolled out in Cork. ADHD Ireland announced the creation of the group in response to the huge increase in the number of adults contacting its services in the past two years. The number of adults contacting the charity has more than doubled in the past two years, as awareness and understanding of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) increases.

“There is a widespread misperception that ADHD is a behavioural issue that affects children,” said ADHD Ireland Chief Executive, Ken Kilbride.

“In fact, ADHD is a neurological condition, a disorder that you’re born with and will live with for your entire life.

“ADHD is not something that people ‘grow out of’. The increase in adults seeking information about a diagnosis reflects a welcome shift in public understanding and we are delighted to be able to roll out these new supports in the Cork area,” he said.

The first adult support group will take place today, Thursday 12 March from 7-8.30pm at the Bessborough Centre on Bessborough Road.

The peer to peer meetings will then take place fortnightly.
