Seat sets Irish January sales record

Wednesday, 27th February, 2019 3:21pm

Seat Ireland has kicked off 2019 in style enjoying great growth on the same period last year and posting record sales results for a single month.

In January alone, Seat sold 1,016 units which represents a seven per cent increase in sales year on year in a market which is down almost 13 per cent overall.

Even more impressive for Seat is its significant increase in market share with Seat achieving a record market share of 3.1 per cent in January.

Once again, it is the performance of Seat’s SUV range which is one of the key drivers of Seat’s success.

Ireland’s Small Crossover of the Year 2019, the Seat Arona has been a resounding success with Irish motorists since its arrival in late 2017 and accounted for some 25 per cent of sales in January 2019, an impressive 90 per cent increase in sales year on year.

The other major factor behind Seat’s January is the continued brilliant performance of the award-winning Seat Ateca. In January, the Ateca contributed to 30 per cent of overall sales which represents a considerable increase of 13 per cent year on year.

Overall, the performance of Seat’s SUV range demonstrates just how much of a game changer it has been for the brand with SUV sales of the Arona and Ateca accounting for 55 per cent of volume in January.

There was also cause for celebration for the traditional mainstays of the Seat brand - the Seat Ibiza and Seat Leon also enjoyed a strong January accounting for 25 per cent and 16 per cent of sales respectively.

Niall Phillips, Brand Director at Seat Ireland commented: “The story of Seat in Ireland is one of continued momentum and excellent performance driven by the outstanding product range we now boast. Seat has the youngest and most dynamic fleet in the market and the variety we can offer Irish motorists means we are becoming more and more relevant to consumers and are giving them a reason to choose Seat as their vehicle of preference.

“This month’s performance, a record in the history of our brand is testament to this and we are looking forward to an extremely successful 2019 and launching our very first seven-seater SUV, the all new Seat Tarraco completing our outstanding SUV range and giving Irish motorists even greater choice.”
