Inniscarra death not being treated as suspicious

It is understood that the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body in a car near Ballincollig last night are not being treated as suspicious.

A post-mortem will be carried out this afternoon on a body discovered in a car at Inniscarra near Ballincollig yesterday evening.

The alarm was raised at approximately 6.15pm when a car was discovered on fire in a field off the R618 Inniscarra Road. Cork County Fire Services attended at the scene, extinguished the fire, and a body was discovered inside the car. The identity of the deceased has yet to be determined.

The scene is currently preserved and both the Office of the State Pathologist and a local coroner have been notified.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who travelled along the R618 Inniscarra Road between approximately 5.30pm and 6.15pm or who can assist with their enquiries to contact them at Gurranabraher Garda Station on 021-4946200 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800-666111.

The outcome of today’s post-mortem will determine the course of a garda investigation into the case.
