Wednesday, 10th April, 2019 5:11pm

A fifth man was arrested yesterday by gardaí investigating the murder of Mikolaj Wilk last year.

The 30 year old man was one of two men arrested on Wednesday by gardaí investigating the murder of Mr Wilk on 10 June last, following the arrest of a man in his 30s on Wednesday morning.

The second man was arrested yesterday evening and is detained at Gurranabraher Garda Station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007. The first man remains in custody at Togher Garda Station under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.

Gardaí have now arrested five men in relation to the investigation, following the arrests of three men in their 30s in January. All three were later released without charge, with a file to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

A gardener and handyman originally from Poland, 35 year old Mr Wilk was attacked by a group of men who forced their way into his home at the Bridge House in Maglin in the early hours of 10 June last year. He died from shock and haemorrhage due to multiple blows from sharp weapons, an inquest into his death found.

The inquest into Mr Wilk’s death was adjourned last week, as gardaí continue their investigation.
