A pattern for success

Bishopstown knitters recently raised €1,750 for Cork Dog Action Welfare Group (DAWG).

Mary O’Shaughnessy runs the knitting group that meets on Tuesday mornings in Bishoptown Library and every year the members, young and old, sell their creations to raise funds for a chosen charity.

“Every year we put our favourite charities into a hat, and this year, to my absolute delight Cork DAWG was picked.”

Mary has been involved with Cork DAWG since it was founded over ten years ago as an offshoot of Animal Care Society Cork, to serve the dogs of the city.

She jumped at the chance to fundraise for her favourite charity.

The group soon got to work knitting items such as baby blankets and the ever popular Michael 'Tea' Higgins tea cosies.

Mary and the group then set up a stall in Wilton Shopping Centre in April where they got a great response.

Cork DAWG was formally presented with a cheque for €1,750 at the knitters’ meeting on Tuesday with a helping paw from dogs Misty and Ollie.
