A year in the making

A local charity is celebrating 12 months of partnership with Amazon this week.

This time last year the Cork Life Centre entered into an educational programme of volunteering, support and events with the Amazon Customer Services Centre.

The Cork Life Centre is a voluntary organisation that offers an alternative learning environment to young people who find themselves outside the mainstream education system.

As part of the partnership, the Amazon team, which is based at Cork Airport Business Park, has been working with the Cork Life Centre for the last year, providing monthly coding classes and French language lessons, as well as setting up an IT network for the charity.

The Amazon team also provided ten laptops for coding classes, wi-fi routers, refurbishment materials and a storage shed.

Speaking on the partnership, Ian Semple, Site Leader at the Amazon Customer Services Centre in Cork, said: “The year we’ve spent working with the team at the Cork Life Centre has been rewarding, humbling and inspiring for myself and the team at Amazon in Cork.”

Don O’Leary, Director at the Cork Life Centre, added: “The support has been a real highlight for the young people who use our services and has given them so much, including life-changing experiences with coding and Alexa skills.”

The activity is part of the Amazon in the Community programme, whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK and Ireland.
