€1m for school build

Thursday, 7th November, 2019 8:55am

A project worth €1 million has taken a step forward for a primary school in Cloyne.

The plans for St Colman’s National School, which include the construction of four general classrooms, resource rooms, toilets and a staff carpark, have been approved to tender.

Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice and Equality, David Stanton confirmed the school's news on Tuesday.

He said: “This project will have a total budget of over €1 million and will involve the construction of four general classrooms plus resource rooms and toilets and I understand that a fifth classroom is also due to be added soon.”

These new rooms will mean that yard space at the front of the school which currently contains temporary accommodation will, once again, be freed up for use by pupils at break times.

“A new staff car park will be developed in the field to the back of the school. Having substantial staff parking available will greatly assist traffic flow and congestion outside the school thus improving road safety and access to the school by pupils in the morning and evenings,” added Minister Stanton.
