‘People have been watched’

Thursday, 28th November, 2019 8:43am

One of Cork’s top ranking gardaí has issued a stern warning for the public to be vigilant at ATMs and post offices as Christmas approaches.

Chief Superintendent Con Cadogan urged people to be cautious of their surroundings when using ATMs and taking money out of post offices, for fear criminals may be watching and attempt a mugging.

His comments came after new figures published this week show a rise in theft from the person on Leeside.

Speaking with the Cork Independent, Chief Superintendent Cadogan warned: “It has been a problem that people have been watched when they are in post offices and banks. I would urge people to be very careful when taking out large sums of cash. I would ask people to be very discreet.”

He also urged staff to be on the lookout for any suspicious behaviour in the run up to the festive season when shoppers may be taking out a lot of money.
