Thursday, 9th January, 2020 9:06am

The public have been thanked for their help after gardaí arrested two teenagers in Glenville this week.

Gardaí arrested the two juvenile males in their late teens in relation to a suspected theft incident at a petrol station in the Glenville area, around 20km northeast of Cork city.

Shortly after 11.30am on Tuesday, gardaí in Fermoy received a report of a car that had drove away without paying for petrol.

The car was also involved in a collision in the area following the suspected theft.

Two males fled the scene and a search of the area was carried out by the Roads Policing and Southern Region Dog Units.

A garda spokesperson said: “A sighting of the two suspects was reported to Fermoy Garda Station after members of the public seen an appeal for information on the Garda Southern Region Facebook page.”

After the arrest, the spokesperson said: “As a direct result of information received from members of the public, two males are in custody following a search in the Glenville area, carried out with the assistance of garda dog Lazar and his handler."

The teenagers were released from Fermoy Garda Station on Wednesday and a file will now be prepared for the Juvenile Diversion Programme.
