Cork art goes stateside

Wednesday, 12th February, 2020 4:00pm

Excitement is high for a select group of talented Leeside artists who will have their works displayed in the Big Apple this week.

Resident artists of the Crawford Supported Studio were invited by the School of Visual Art, New York to exhibit their work at its ‘Other Voices’ exhibition at the SVA Flat Iron Gallery in Chelsea, New York.

The invitation to exhibit comes after the artists hosted a group of staff and students from SVA New York for a day long open studio in Cork in the summer of 2019.

Crawford Supported Studio is a partnership project between Crawford Art Gallery and CIT Crawford which supports visual artists with intellectual disabilities to develop their professional art practice.

The works include portraits of artists in the group, paintings of well-known Cork buildings, abstract paintings and drawings.

The exhibition aims to celebrate the diversity of voices and perspectives being embraced by Irish culture and to offer an international platform for those who have been on the periphery of the art world.

Rosaleen Moore, Artist and Ambassador for Crawford Supported Studio, has travelled to New York for the exhibition, along with Louise Foott, Head of Arts in Health and Education, CIT Crawford College of Art and Design.

The ‘Other Voices’ exhibition began on Monday and will run until the end of the week.
