Pawsible dog park?

Wednesday, 11th November, 2020 2:43pm

There was barking good news for our four-legged hounds, this week.

City Hall officials are to look at pawsible locations for a dedicated area where pooches can run off their lead, it was confirmed. But don't wag your tail just yet as costs of setting up such an area will have to be chased up first.

Management at Cork City Council told councillors that it will explore the feasibility of providing a designated area for a dog run and if this can be accommodated in one of Cork city’s existing parks without compromising other uses and activities.

A spokesperson said: “Issues to be considered in the provision of a dog run are the size of area required, suitable fencing, segregation of large and small dogs, supervision, cleaning and maintenance, capital and revenue costs.”

Councillors will be able to fetch the findings of the exercise when completed.

The news came after Independent Cllr Thomas Moloney ask that the council identify and designate an area for dog walkers within the city where they can leave their dogs off lead but still be in an enclosed safe area.

During Monday’s meeting of Cork City Council, some councillors mentioned Tramore Valley Park as an option as well as an area near the Angler’s Rest in Ballincollig.
