Cork hurlers to learn opponents this evening

Friday, 26th June, 2020 2:24pm

Cork will know their opponents in the upcoming Munster Senior Hurling Championship when the draw takes place later today live on tv.

The draw will be shown on RTÉ’s Six One news with the championship featuring an open draw, with one quarter-final, two semi-finals and a final with a backdoor for teams who are beaten, the GAA have announced. The first three teams drawn, from a pot of Cork, Waterford, Tipperary, Clare and Limerick, will receive a bye into the semi-finals.

Munster Championship games will begin at the end of October.

For the footballers, there will be no Munster Championship as the All-Ireland Championship will be run on a straight knockout basis, with no backdoor. Cork's first knock-out match will be against rivals Kerry, with the losing side's championship ending following the conclusion of that game. No replays will take place in either championship this season.

The All-Ireland Football Final will take place on 19 December, while the hurling decider will be played on 13 December.

Intercounty games will resume on 17 October when the first of the final two rounds of the league will be played.

Club county championships will take place from 31 July during an 11-week window.
