So Last Season

Silly season is upon us

We’re approaching that time of year when the seasons are transitioning and you don’t quite know what to buy or to wear. It’s around this time that I dig deep into my year round capsule wardrobe and use that to help me get dressed on those mornings where you’re feeling completely sartorially uninspired but still need to pull a stylish look together.

If you haven’t already done so then now is the time to invest in those stylish separates that will get you out of a fashion bind time and time again. These should be pieces that are flattering to your body shape and which work well together but with all the existing pieces in your wardrobe. Here are a few pieces that I rely on a lot and which you will always see in my wardrobe.

The foundation of any good capsule wardrobe is a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Sounds simple but if you find a style of jeans and tee that works for you then you have the foundation of so many great outfits to hand.

It’s worth having a few t-shirts in different shapes from the round neck to the v-neck and in a selection of colours. White, grey and navy are the classics to have and replenish every season. I’m also a jeans fanatic and there is no one pair of jeans that suits everyone. This is all about trial and error and can take some time to find them but once you find the perfect pair all the hard wok is done. My current favourite style is a high waist straight leg pair from Topshop but I also have a pair of River Island ones that I like too.

Jackets and midi dresses are other items that feature heavily in my wardrobe at the moment. I’m wearing a khaki green jacket with everything recently from my jeans and tee combo to my patterned midi dresses but I’m also mixing it up with an oversized denim jacket on occasion.

When it gets a bit cooler I’ll start introducing my leather jacket into the mix, and for a night out, it’s always the jacket I’ll return to again and again.

Now I’ve spoken at length about my love of the midi dress and it is, without a doubt, the one thing that I’m always so comfortable in. It’s so versatile and can be dressed up or down with ease. I’m really stretching their cost per wear further by layering a t-shirt over my dresses and belting at the waist to give the effect of a skirt and top.

Accessories are the game changer to the capsule wardrobe and they are a very inexpensive way to change up your looks. I’m currently loving layering lots of simple gold jewellery and also adding a statement earring into the mix.

This takes your simple outfits and gives them a totally different look.

The jeans and tee looks instantly more ‘fashion’ when you add a pair of oversized ear baubles and layers of fine gold necklaces.

Lastly, when it comes to shoes, we all know I’m a flats girl at heart and I live in white trainers however there are times when you need to rock a heel and my one rule for heels is that you can actually walk in them. I’ve spotted a white pair in Office which would work with everything and give a new lease of life to even the most simple of outfits. It doesn’t have to be something very high and in fact I think a chunky, mid rise heel looks best and will ensure you can walk around all day foot pain free.
