So Last Season

Skipping into spring and onto summer

Wednesday, 20th February, 2019 5:05pm

There really aren’t enough hours in the day at the moment and with a new season comes lots of different events and opportunities for styling.

At the start of last week I was up in Dublin for the Primark/Penneys press day, and if I wasn't already excited for spring, I’m now even more excited for summer.

There really is a trend for every style out there, whether you favour pops of neon, safari or easy to wear utility. You can even go wild and mix your trends together using khaki green utility pieces as your base and adding unexpected pops of green and yellow neon, either through form fitting high neck tops or accessories like neon green sock boots. Trust me, these look a whole lot better than they sound!

I also liked their selection of ruffle blouses, crochet beachwear and tropical printed co-ords which makes me want to immediately go book a holiday in sunnier climes.

However, the absolute standout pieces for me on the day were the accessories. Straw bags, crochet and leather handbags that will be on every fashionista's Instagram feed plus raffia sliders, 60s inspired bikinis and Cult Gaia copies are all high on my wish list.

At the weekend it was wedding central as I manned the Opera Lane Groom's Room at The Wedding Experience in Silversprings. Now you might think that once you have your wedding outfit sorted, that’s all you need but when you actually think about it there’s so much more to consider than the white dress or the suit.

I’ve long been helping brides pick hen party outfits as well as helping them build a capsule wedding wardrobe to help them get ready for all the events leading up to the wedding, the day after the wedding, and not to mention the honeymoon afterwards.

Being prepared like this means it’s one less stress factor surrounding the big day, so it goes without saying that guys should be able to avail of this service too so it was great to get out there and meet the grooms and promote the personal shopping service to them.

It was interesting too to meet people who were going to be guests at weddings abroad and having to deal with the added minefield of trying to look smart while not melting in the heat.

I always love a wedding abroad because in general you can be that little bit more relaxed with your look, but for guys it can be hard to get that balance between suiting and shorts and a t-shirt. I once met a guy who was going to wear heavy corduroy trousers to a wedding in Italy in August. That’s just wrong on so many levels.

This week I’m off to the UK to work on an exciting photoshoot with a well-known celeb that I’ve been looking forward to meeting for a long time. I can’t say much at the moment but I’ll fill you in afterwards.

I actually don’t think I’ve ever packed so many clothes for a one night trip in my life. Unfortunately as I’ve got to bring all the clothes over with me, it means that I can barely bring anything for myself, so let me tell you I have really drawn on my packing skills for this one and I’ve been very strict with myself over what I can bring for myself.

I’m a pillar of sense really!
