Hook, line and sinker for Love Island

Wednesday, 12th June, 2019 4:33pm

Well I fulfilled my childhood dream and finally got to see the Spice Girls in concert. I’m sure thirteen year old me, who became heavily obsessed with them following their debut hit 'Wannabe', would have been very impressed to be flying to Edinburgh to see them play in Murrayfield.

If you’ve been reading reports of their concerts you might have heard complaints about the sound but I can honestly say I didn’t notice a single sound issue.

I’m completely convinced there’s some conspiracy going on here because anyone I’ve spoken to who was at the previous concerts all said there was no issue but maybe we’re all just blinded by Spice love?

The atmosphere was so amazing and it was actually kind of surreal to see them back on stage together - minus Posh Spice of course.

I’m okay with this as I was never a major Vicky B fan but I did miss her famous pointing dance moves. Nobody can extend a forearm and point a finger in the air quite like Victoria Beckham.

Of course I was glued to the weather forecast for Edinburgh for the last few weeks and of course rain was forecast on Saturday.

This really threw a spanner in the works as it made packing all the more difficult and I felt extreme jealousy at all the people who went to Croke Park which was noticeably non-rain filled.

I actually bought a raincoat just in case, even though I was fully convinced it was going to be sunny.

Dear reader, I was deluded. Of course it was absolutely lashing and in a moment of madness as we left our hotel, I mistook a break in the rain as a sign of it drying up and left my rain coat behind.

I did, however, have a small brolly which four of us huddled underneath and which I had to throw in the bin upon getting to the venue as brollies weren’t permitted which, I mean, is fair enough but I really could have used it after the gig. I almost considered rooting in the bins which had become like an abandoned umbrella burial ground to see if I could find it.

Anyway, once the gals came on stage, it dried up and even if it had been torrentially raining at that point it wouldn’t have dampened our spirits. I’m just sad now that it’s over but here’s hoping they’ll do another reunion tour at some stage.

Side note: Edinburgh is such a gorgeous city and I’d love to go back again for a proper sightseeing tour.

In other news I have been gripped, unsurprisingly, by 'Love Island' fever and we are only in week two. I was already seriously invested by the first episode and I think this season is going to be one of the best yet. I mean I was always going to watch it but I felt like I wasn’t that bothered about it this year. However I feel like I’m more into it now than ever.

The only problem is when I go somewhere and the person I’m meeting doesn’t watch the show. I spent the whole weekend with a group of people who don’t watch it and so I obviously spent the entire time trying to lure them over to the dark side.

I mean do they not care that Anton seems to wear nothing but spray on white jeans which make his legs look like over stuffed white puddings about to burst open or that Curtis is essentially a pensioner trapped in a young man’s body? These are quite simply the important matters of the day and must be discussed as such.

Who knows what the next seven weeks will bring!
