Credit Union email scam warning

Credit Union customers in Cork are being warned of an email scam that aims to collect personal information from members through a process that uses an identical copy of the Credit Union's actual website. The Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU) has urged members to delete the email if they have received it and stressed that no Credit Union will ask a member for personal details by email or over the phone.

Business groups call on local government to pass on savings

Business organisations in the Cork region which include Cork Chamber, IBEC – Cork, Cork Business Association (CBA) and the VFI Southern Branch strongly welcomed the recent publication of the Local Government Efficiency Review Group, saying that many of the cost saving recommendations, if implemented swiftly, have the potential to help reduce the burden on local government funding, of which the business community has long been the funder of "last resort".

 
ACCA offer investment advice to senior citizens

Senior citizens in Cork are being offered advice on what to do with their life savings, regardless of how small or large they might be. Aidan Clifford, ACCA's Advisory Services Manager, said: "Senior citizens have a greater need to protect their savings. What savings they have when they retire may have to last them for the rest of their lives. It is important that these savings are not put at risk.

 
Government nearly missed crucial EU deadline - MEP

The irish government came "dangerously close" to missing out on a vital EU deadline to improve job creation in Ireland according to the Labour MEP for Ireland South, Alan Kelly. "The EU's regional aid map was drawn up in 2006 but was due for review this year with a submission deadline of 1 April," Kelly said.

Survey of pension funds show variety of returns

The survey, carried out by Hewitt Associates, shows a range of performances across the different funds. The Standard Life GARS fund is the top performing multi asset fund, with a year to date performance of plus 6.5 per cent through the end of June. The Friends First/F&C Diversified Growth is the poorest performing year to date, returning minus 4.2 per cent.

 
Aer Arann axe will affect Cork business

The decision by Aer Arann to axe its Cork-Dublin route will have implications for cross-border relations and business development according to Fine Gael TD, Deirdre Clune. "Aer Arann had a partnership approach on this route with Aer Lingus so passengers could fly anywhere in the world which is now lost to commuters," she said.

The latest JNLR figures released yesterday show Cork's RedFM as the preferred choice on the radio dial among under-35s.
