A week after Cork City's unbeaten away record came to a halt against Monaghan United, the club's dismal home form received a much needed boost when Finn Harps were defeated 2-1 at Turners Cross last Friday.
The City starting eleven was unchanged from the one that suffered defeat to Monaghan a week ago, with Shane Barrett making his home debut.

Next Wednesday sees the first football game in the new Aviva Stadium. I am privileged to be in charge of the Airtricity League of Ireland team that will play Manchester United. The build-up to this historic fixture has been interesting. Initially I agreed to accept the job as it was an honour, not to mention the very attractive nature of the opposition, but as time has progressed enjoyment has become the real motivation.

After the relative speed bump of Antrim comes the mountain that is Kilkenny for the Cork hurlers.

Hello punters!
This week I have a little bit of racing mayhem and skulduggery for you, prompted as I was last week by a regular reader of the column to do a resume on the Gay Future betting coup, which is 'celebrating' its 36th anniversary over this coming August Bank Holiday.
