New festival pops in on Friday

Food and design will be mingling across Cork city this weekend as a first of a kind festival takes over.

Design Pop will see six designers and six food producers team up to create six pop-up pavilions.

These bespoke installations will pop up all across the city in a new food and design trail and each pavilion will be open from 12-6pm on Friday and from 11am-6pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Emmett Place will be the location for Cork printmaker and visual artist, Shane O’Driscoll and plant-based food company Banana Melon Kitchen to display their collaborative pavilion.

Irish designer, illustrator and Design Pop brand creator, Conor Merriman is partnering with SOMA for an interactive structure in Bishop Lucey Park.

Luke Hickson, from Meitheal Design, and food producers My Goodness will feature their pavilion at Lapp’s Quay at the boardwalk. Cornmarket Street will showcase the pavilion of large scale international artist Alex Pentek and Applebee Bakes.

The pavilion at Nano Nagle Place will be created by Good Day Deli and Corkonian Alan Macilwraith from JCA Architects.

Groups of creatives from multidisciplinary design collective, Fíor Studios, have collaborated with All Full Up to create a pavilion in Elizabeth Fort.
