Wellbeing leaflets for kids published

Parents are set to be educated on how to they can help their children’s social and emotional wellbeing after new guidelines were published this week.

Tusla the Child and Family Agency and Cork Children and Young People Services Committee (CYPSC) in conjunction with Barnardos launched the parenting guides on Monday.

The leaflets, which are aimed at parents of children up to the age of 24, provide information and guidance to help create positive, loving and supportive relationships between them and their children. It also helps parents to be better equipped to deal with some tough situations.

The leaflets were the brain child of Cork CYPSC, an interagency collaborative forum which was established to identify and respond to the needs of children and young people in Cork.

The initiative was developed on the back of a consultation process carried out with parents which identified gaps in parenting supports in Cork city and county.

Speaking about the launch, Barry Murray, Area Manager, Tusla and Chair of Cork CYPSC said: “The programme was developed in response to an identified need in the area – Cork parents told us they didn’t have enough support or access to evidenced based, sound advice on how to deal with their child’s emotional and social wellbeing.

“The development of the programme was a long process but what we’ve learned is that parents are looking for a safe-zone where they can learn practical tools to deal with the challenges that daily life brings.”
