Ready to rock for Rod!

Rod Stewart fans have been warned to expect traffic delays in and out of Cork city as they prepare to descend upon Páirc Uí Chaoimh this Saturday.

With the stadium sure to be packed to the rafters for the Scottish rocker, gardaí have warned gig-goers of traffic restrictions going to and from the stadium.

Speaking at Anglesea Street Garda Station on Tuesday, Inspector James Hallahan said: “We are asking motorists and pedestrians to be patient and follow the direction of gardaí and stewards. I would appeal to anyone going to concert to use the Bus Eireann shuttle buses from Lapps Quay or walk to Páirc Uí Chaoimh, as there is no parking around the stadium and there will be a tow away operation in place.

“As always, when travelling to and from the stadium, I would ask that patrons respect the local residents and businesses. This is an event for all the family and consuming alcohol out in public will not be tolerated.”

A number of road closures will be in place on Saturday; from 9am parts of Monahan Road, Centre Park Road, Maryville and the Marina will be closed, while areas in the vicinity of the stadium will be closing from 1.30pm.

Meanwhile, following last week’s launch of both the Rod Stewart gig and this summer’s Live at the Marquee, promoter Peter Aiken told the Cork Independent he was “not sure” whether the Marquee festival would take place next summer after its site was bought for development.

“We might get another year out of it. I’m not sure,” he admitted. “Building hasn’t started and these things often take a while. I certainly hope we’ll be there again, but I don’t know yet.”

Doors for Rod Stewart will be open at 6pm with the gig at 8pm sharp, and ending at approximately 10.45pm. The full traffic management plan for Rod Stewart can be found at garda.ie.
