McKahey’s got loadsa soul

Fresh from the recent launch of his new EP, Cork musician Fintan McKahey will be taking to the stage at the Brú Bar and Hostel for the Soul in the City festival.

The 23 year old will perform at 10pm on Friday 31 May as part of a packed line-up of music planned as part of the music and food festival, which runs until Sunday 2 June.

McKahey comes from good music pedigree. His father Rob was the drummer with 1980s Cork punk band Stump, who charted in both Ireland and the UK, and was also an early member of what later became Microdisney. His uncle Liam was the singer in Cousteau, a London-based band who enjoyed some success in the early 2000s, while his mother is an actress who appeared in TV and stage with the likes of the BBC.

McKahey recently launched his new EP ‘God Games’ with gigs in The Kino and Levis’ in Ballydehob. The eight-track EP includes the title single ‘God Games’, a slow burner adorned with percussive acoustic guitar and dreamy, ethereal keys, and one of several songs off the record exhibiting McKahey’s newfound interest in multi-instrumentation.

Additionally, he has been exploring collaborations with several artists from the different disciplines of film, photography and dance. A new documentary, ‘Fintan: Genesis of an Artist’, filmed by Cork filmmaker, SH Bean, was screened at the Fastnet Film Festival in Schull last week.
