Live at the Marquee is back!
The wait is finally over! Live at the Marquee returns to Cork shores this Saturday with another packed line-up of international acts, old favourites and Irish up-and-comers.
The 15th and perhaps final edition of the summer blockbuster concert series will kick off down in the docklands this Saturday 8 June with Irish veterans Aslan, who will perform hits like ‘Crazy World’ and ‘This Is’ as they celebrate 25 years of their album ‘Goodbye Charlie Moonhead’. Support will come from fellow Dubliner, singer/songwriter Damien Dempsey.
‘Wagon Wheel’ star Nathan Carter will roll in to Cork, a city which he has admitted is close to his heart, on Friday 14 June, followed by American rockers TOTO, who will perform favourites like ‘Rosanna’ and ‘Africa’ on Saturday 15 June.
In a left-field move from festival promoter Aiken, rising stars Versatile will be bringing their brash brand of hip hop Leeside on Friday 21 June.
Having stolen the show at last year’s Electric Picnic and gone viral with their stomping seven-minute track ‘Ketamine’, the Dublin duo are the only act to sell out the Marquee thus far, with tickets gone within a few hours.
Three of the biggest DJs will be arriving on 22 June for One Day; UK ‘Ready for your Love’ hitmakers Gorgon City, Sonny Fodera and special guest, Grammy-nominated producer Duke Dumont, will take to the stage for a first-of-its-kind event at the Marquee.
On 23 June, three-time Grammy-winning songwriter, performer and Hollywood actor Kris Kristofferson will be stopping Leeside, while the following day will see ‘80s duo BROS will bring hits like ‘When Will I Be Famous?’ to the famous tent. Matt and Luke Goss recently made a comeback after 30 years with two sold out gigs at London’s O2 Arena, riding high from the success of last year’s documentary ‘BROS: After the Screaming Stops’.
Carrying the torch for the Irish contingent on 27 June are Mullingar four-piece The Academic.
The band’s debut album ‘Tales from the Backseat’ was nominated for the RTE Choice Music Prize earlier this year, shooting to number one in the Irish album charts and being named album of the week at BBC Radio One in the UK.
The Westmeath natives make a victorious return to the Marquee having previously supported several acts at the venue, including Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds in 2016.
Friday 28 June kicks off two nights featuring the RTE Concert Orchestra. The first night sees the orchestra return with 2FM presenter Jenny Greene after blowing fans away at the Marquee last summer, while the 50-piece orchestra will collaborate with Ireland’s best loved country stars as they perform many of the classic country songs you know and love on 29 June.
Australian multi-instrumentalist Tash Sultana, who has gone from recording on a GoPro in her bedroom to 200 million streams online, plays on 3 July. The first act announced for LATM 2019 in October, Sultana is one that promoter Peter Aiken admitted he “took a gamble on”, but is another surprise choice that is likely to be popular with Leesiders.
Much-celebrated Irish comedian Tommy Tiernan makes a return to the Marquee on 4 and 5 July, bringing his Paddy Crazy Horse tour to Cork’s second city, while Christy Moore, a Marquee mainstay having featured at every edition of the festival since its inception, is set to thrill folk lovers on 6 July.
Welsh singer-songwriter David Gray will play on 7 July following successful previous well-received visits Leeside, and the festival will come to a close on 8 July with influential ‘80s duo Daryl Hall and John Oates, who will perform hits like ‘I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)’ and ‘You Make My Dreams Come True’.
With so much on offer, this year’s Live at the Marquee is shaping up to be another hit with Corkonians alike!
